This is assuming that these shows in the movie-movie universe parallel our universe. This would mean he doubled for Bob Urich 1980 through 1983. Then he mentions working on.the last season of Vega$ stunting for Robert Urich and then later for him on Gavilan. This would mean he would probably be working through the 60s into the 70s. Was Stuntman Mike still working at the time? When he was telling the girls about his work, he mentions doubling Gary Clarke and Lee Majors in The Virginian. Tl dr: Death Proof is two films in a trilogy, Stuntman Mike links all the films and Zoe Bell knows who Stuntman Mike is from a "lost" first film in the trilogy I also used some language that implies I mean an actual film 1 exists, I don't mean that, it's simply for the support of this theory. I would guess each film had its own title (not a successive, similar title that most trilogies have, let's call film 1 The Stunt Killer and film 3 The Final Shot/Cut/w/e). For all we know this Teenage Projectionist cut out all the relevant exposition and backstory that would explain Film 1. The lapdance scene is also extremely important because this also helps solidify why Zoe never says anything, about knowing Stuntman Mike, in the "Death Proof" cut. Zoe comes to Texas to film some stunts and she and her crew come into contact with Mike, and obviously they fuck him up big time (after one of THE most glorious car chases in film history, gotta say it). This second film proves to be as much a success if not more than Stuntman Mike 1, so the producers commission the last film in the trilogy.įilm three is the end (literally). The reason why this is film #2 is because we all know sequels to films that don't have any actors from the first one besides one or two and kind of start afresh, hence why Zoe, nor any of the Film Girls, don't appear in this save for Stuntman Mike (Jungle Julia could have been present or appeared in film one doing interviews on the film Mike and Zoe are working on, and keeps it in Texas). Don't forget the lapdance scene was cut out of the Grindhouse version and put into the "extended" version of Death Proof, which could help the theory that there's "more" footage lying out there, read on. This makes sense as to a change of pace from a film set to music-orientated girls. Zoe becomes best friends with Thoms' character, happy ending.įilm two is Julia's Girls. Mike, being a pussy, buggers off (as we see when he gets shot in the end of the second half). This film shoot chronicled in Stuntman Mike 1 either went really well in the end or not at all - let's say Mike kills people, at first unintentionally, then intentionally getting a taste for it while making it look like stunts gone wrong. I also hazard a guess towards the end this is where Tracie Thoms' character comes in, because they're obviously BFFs in the second half of Death Proof, and are both stunt performers. What happens in this is up to imagination, but something obviously happens to Zoe by Mike's hand.

I think the first film is "lost" (at least to us real-life people), and chronicled a film shoot that involved both Mike and Zoe.

Now, I always figured that the first half ("Julia's Girls") was music orientated, and the second half ("Zoe's girls") was film orientated, and this is - obviously - intentional.

I would hazard a guess that the teenage projectionist (quick detour: why teenage projectionist? Because this is grindhouse, and they probably wouldn't care if a teen was projecting X-rated movies) is also the one that calls the film we now know as "Death Proof" Death Proof, because of this merging of films (the opening credits clearly show the "original" title as Thunderbolt, then cut to a plain, white text on black title card in plain text saying "Death Proof"). Given that Zoe's a REAL stuntwoman, and Mike is a fictional stuntman, the concept that they have crossed paths before in the Tarantinoverse is not farfetched as far as I am concerned. Zoe never says anything about Mike - but she never seemed that she didn't know him either (more on this later). Why a trilogy? Because that fills in what the third film (not necessarily the last film due to Mike's death) was about: Stuntman Mike and Stuntwoman Zoë. Keeping this "cinema" mindset, I had a theory years ago when I was Grindhouse-mad that Death Proof is actually a teenage projectionist's effort to make an entire film from scraps of two films in a trilogy. We also know that Death Proof was the second film in the double-feature extravaganza that was Grindhouse. It's obvious to the simplest of dullards that Death Proof is split into two halves - however, one is music, the next is film (more on this later). To be honest this theory will be as simple as I can make it, and I also haven't seen Death Proof in a while so please correct any errors I (unintentionally) put forward as fact, and this is also my first theory.
